Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1979

This is a lovely 1979 VW Camper with a 2.0 liter engine. I have restored about 6 VW Campers, and other VWs. I like the stock 2.0 liter engines with or without fuel injection as they have more power then earlier models.
History: I bought this from the 2nd owners who bought it from the original owner who bought it at Phil Winslow VW Colorado Springs. May have been another owner, not sure.... When I bought it it was sitting for 3 or 4 years. Original interior was a tan and the paint was beige with a wide checkered pin stripe.
Mechanical: I took the Bus to Painters Grinding a VW shop in Denver with a great reputation. The first owner had the engine rebuilt from fuel injection to a dual carb set-up. I'm not a fan of dual carbs so I had Painter's convert to a single carb, complete a full tune up and check the car over. They checked the car's compression which was very good and completed work. They added a new gas gauge in the tank which only registers half full when tank is full. They may have installed wrong model gauge, not sure. I added a battery, had starter rebuilt, and installed 4 Yokohama tires. The Bus has the set-up for 2 batteries if you desire. Brakes work good. This bus has an RPM clock on the dash, right side. I would replace the shocks. All lights including turn signals (manual turn off) work, horn, windshield wipers and I believe cigarette lighter works. Professionally installed stereo with a smaller amp, door and rear top cabinet speakers. Slight oil drip.
Exterior/Interior: The exterior is wrapped and not painted. This is what many company business do to their work trucks. I hand wash it but you can wash it at a hand held car wash. The gentleman I used to wrap my bus had a guy complete the body work for an agreed price and then did not complete body work properly, mainly a final skim coat. I cannot catch it with my camera. The worst is the panel with the water connection, rear hatch has a few spots. The bus was taken down to metal and then primed. All windows except drivers and passenger have new rubber gaskets. Glass is all good including new front windshield. Outside rear view mirrors are nice after market ones. Top was pressure washed, lightly sanded and received 2 coats of a top marine paint made for fiberglass. It looks great and shows no wear.
I bought original style VW fabric and non-original vinyl. My upholsterer did all the bus except for the top bunk which is in good condition although could use new foam or a memory foam topper. She did the front seats with a thick cardboard strip with attaches to bottom of the seat. Plastic would of been a better choice, The seats are very nice and presentable but not near show car standards. All of the seats have brand new foam. The bus has new carpet and a new rubber mat in the cockpit. There are new curtains all around. The front and sliding doors have new brown door panels. I removed the dry rotted plastic on the front and middle inside sealing. The ceiling is wood and looks nice, maybe benefit from a coat of tung or other oil. The stove works, not positive about fridge as I used an old school ice chest. New curtains all around and I have the original brown curtain that snaps around front window for privacy while camping. I have installed 4 canvas tops in campers. They came out wonderful. My first attempt at this one resulted in me ripping out a brand new top canvas. The one that is installed now needs to be reinstalled with a repair to that damaged area. You can use it as-is but worthwhile doing over. A new one is around $400 and not hard to install but takes time and should be done in the shade or a cool fall day. Must have patience :-). There are instructions and on-line how to do it videos.
Really nice VW Bus that always gets compliments and plenty of stories. I have not camped in it but my son took a 600 mile trip and enjoyed it. Not interested in trades and will let the auction run. Best of luck!
