Description for Volvo 960 1993

This beautiful 960 had basically one owner. The first owner also owned Borton Volvo in Minneapolis, and he special ordered it (more on that later), drove for 5K and sold off the lot as a never registered car according to the records. The owner previous to me had it every since (a local state politician, not a super rich dude but owned about 6 cars at a time, hence the low miles). The cylinder head was rebuilt following a timing belt break. All 24 lifters were replaced with Volvo OEM lifters for insurance. All books and records. All fluids changed.
When I got it I replaced the timing belt with a top quality kit from ipd including tensioner, rollers, water pump. All related gaskets replaced. Saved old parts. Car starts, idles and runs perfectly. No noises, smoke, etc. Runs at normal temp (fans work, T-stat was replaced previously). What else I like about this engine is that it does not have an air pump or EGR valve, this is as it came from the factory, later ones seem to have both. I also replaced the fuel injector seals, fuel filter, serpentine belt.
Trans and driveline excellent, cannot detect any issues, shifts well. Replaced trans fluid by draining the oil pan.
Replaced strut rod bushings in suspension, everything tight and checks out, rides very well, no creaks or groans. Rear shocks do not sag. Cleaned and lubed all the brakes sliders, brakes feel good, good pad and rotor life (15K-20K remaining).
Exhaust is original and still in good shape. Battery very strong.
Body has only a few very small dings. Paint is in excellent condition. Still has original Volvo windshield. No accidents. The passenger side doors have some scuffs where stuff in the garage rubbed up against it. It appears that they could be buffed out (see pix). No rust on body, underside no issues, though the typical surface rust on suspension pieces, brackets, etc. Just a few small dings It was driven at times in the winter but amazingly well preserved. No perfect, but could be detailed to be really nice, paint in very good condition.
Interior is extremely clean. No kids or pets or water leaks. Most everything works as is it should. However, the HVAC system is not perfect. AC does not blow cold and the vents only work on defrost and floor, not eye level. The heater is so powerful it doesn't really matter, car warms up fast. No warning lights on, and they all work. Radio was replaced from a later model with a CD player, have the code. I have not tried the CD player yet. It sounds great.
Tires are matching Bridgestone Potenzas on 940 rims. Tires are very good, though some road noise at low speeds (because the car is so quiet otherwise) from one tire that has mild cupping from being on a different car that needed an alignment. (Makes the same noise whatever car I have put it on so it is not the car, not a problem at higher speeds). I have the original 960 wheels in great shape, center caps included. I will include both sets of wheels for the asking price.
I have been driving it regularly. Never been anything but reliable. Tracks straight but steering wheel off just a little so may need a slight alignment. I have a 940 and 740 and cannot keep them all. I find a Volvo to fix up about once a year and end up with too many cars. Radiator has small pin hole I recently found so will be coming with a new Nissens radiaor installed this week.
Not sure what all was special ordered, but this car has a GLASS moonroof, which I occasionally see on pre-95 960s but not often. It is factory. Also, the wood trim was added at factory I think too. The car is a beautiful color combo, much prefer the camel interior to the later bone colored beige in my opinion.
So, AC and face level vents not working is the main thing. I have done my best to describe everything about this car as accurately as possible. Buyers should understand that they are buying an old used car that happens to be in exceptional condition for very little money. If you are a Volvo fan let me know, willing to let this car go for cheaper to a good home. No warranty implied or expressed. Please ask questions before purchase!
