Description for Volvo 142 1972
1972 Volvo 142E.This vehicle is equipped with an M40 (4-Speed Transmission). It also is fuel injected, equipped with the D-Jetronic fuel system. All 4 gears work as they should, as does reverse. I drive this car very often.
I bought at an auction in April, with no idea on the background. The car no keys and did not run. The car came from Wyoming, and was only relocated to WI recently, where it remains now. The original owner gave the car to a junkyard in WY where it sat for many years untouched, that junkyard then transferred it to a collector of all kinds of cars here in WI. I am technically the second owner, if you don't count the junkyard.
The title is clear and clean and in my name.
Since I have owned the car, there has been a lot of work done.
The coolant was flushed, it got a new radiator and new hoses.
All new vacuum lines.
All new OEM Volvo brakes (rotors surfaced, new pads, one new caliper, 6 hydraulic hoses) - it stops better than my daily driver.
New motor mounts and transmission mount.
New headlight (all other lights function properly including turn signals and reverse lights)
Differential fluid was flushed, and the cover was sealed up.
New axle seals and bearings on both driver and passenger side - they were leaking which I discovered while working on the brakes
New fuel filter, and fuel lines in the rear
New oil filter and oil change.
All 4-cylinders have 145-150 psi compression on each after 6 cycles of the engine (I have tested 3 times, and they all are steady passes)
The timing has been checked and adjusted from its initial setting when I got it.
Points in the distributor have been adjusted.
New spark plugs, wires tested well and cap/rotor are functioning fine.
The Volvo is very mechanically sound, I drive it to work and back often (about a 65 miles round trip)
The body itself is in mostly good shape. There is some surface rust here and there, and a dent on the door from it opening too far and hitting the fender. It also looks like a previous owner hit something on the passenger rear quarter panel which caused a hole and loss of paint. If there was rust it has been taken care of and does not look as if it is in danger of spreading. The paint is faded very badly. It looks like the previous owner began sanding it down leaving it with a patina. The drivers seat is torn up (hence the seat covers) and the dash has a couple small cracks. The grille is pushed in some and there is a hole/missing paint on the pass fender bottom. The coolant temp gauge and fuel gauge do not work.It has a slight spit and sputter under heavy load.
Any questions/offers/trades feel free to contact me.
I am happy to take more pictures for anyone who may wish for them. I have lots more, but not all of them are as high definition as the ones posted on the ad (I took those with my Nikon whereas many of my others were taken with a cell-phone).
