Description for Willys 1941
1941 Willys Americar 441 Restomod Coupe• Absolute stunning and high quality build• ZZ454 CID V-8 engine with Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection and dual side-exit exhausts• 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission• Ford nine-inch rear end and 3.73 final drive• Red exterior with shaved door handles and tan interior with leather upholstery • Power disc brakes front/rear, power Steering, power windows and tilt steering column• Coilovers and four-link suspension setup• Hoosier tires and Billet Specialties five-spoke alloy wheels With its inverted teardrop-shaped headlights and huge trunk, the Willys Americar 441 was the first of two patriotic-named cars, built before and during World War II. Many of them became hot rods during the 1950s and later; this example is no exception. Dressed in a brilliant red, this car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. Its glass panels are clear and look awesome, and its lights are in very good order. The car’s bodywork is straight and solid while its engine bay is extremely clean with the 454 installation and hidden power options. The windshield wipers, sideview mirrors and door handles have all been shaved for the final clean look. This Willys rolls on Hoosier Pro Street rubber, size 26x7.50R15 in front and 31x16.50R15 in back. Each tire is mounted on Billet Specialties five-spoke alloy wheels. Additional features are coilovers and a four-link suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels. Under the red hood is a GM ZZ 454 CID V-8 engine with Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection, braided hoses and lots of chromed parts. The engine breathes via side-exit exhausts. Backing it up are a GM 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission and a Ford nine-inch rear end with 3.73:1 gearing.Driver convenience items include power all four disc brakes, power steering, power windows and tilt steering. Inside, the car’s tan leather bucket seats are in excellent order, as is the corresponding carpeting and floor mats. Even the headliner is in great shape and it is tan, too. A four-spoke aftermarket steering wheel looks great, as are the inner door liners, which come with map pockets. The red, metal dashboard has a fully array of TPI-Tech Instruments with tan faces that contribute to the rest of the interior’s theme but the speedometer is inoperable. The red center console is in excellent order, as is the console shifter with its tan shift cover. As war broke out, civilian production was abandoned by all U.S. motor companies to assist the military and the Willys-Overland Americar was no exception. However, Willys was one of the companies awarded a contract to produce the highly successful Jeep. After the end of the war they managed to secure the trademark on the Jeep name and the much higher sales of its civilian CJ version kept the Toledo firm from resurrecting the prewar models, sealing the fate of the Americar. Critical four-cylinder engine failures, lack of replacement and repair parts and the sheer lack of assistance from Willys turned many Americars into perfect targets for the nascent hot rod community - the Go Devil engine was replaced with many other alternatives, some weaker, some much stronger than the original specification. It became such a favorite that today a 100 percent stock Americar is a very rare find. If you’re looking for a more unique restomod with modern conveniences, you could not get one much rarer than this Willys.
