Description for Oldsmobile 2 Door Sedan 1931
1931 Oldsmobile 2 Door Sedan
Back in 1931 at an Autorama show, Oldsmobile went to great lengths to show value for the dollar, and they did this by not just showing a complete car, but actually had a frame on wheels no body, just engine. The also had on display a nearly complete car with areas of cross sections taken apart so one could view the actual construction. These fascinating glimpses into the construction, made it a very popular car back in 1931.
For consignment a rare all steel sedan from 1931 now morphed into street rod sedan form. Plenty of customizations, lots of performance add ons, and an overall very nice presentation, for this 1931 Olds street rod.
Exterior
All steel, absolutely no fiberglass on this rodder, that sports a station wagon ribbed roof, some frenching on the license plate, an open cowled hood (panels are available) all bathed in 2010 Camaro Inferno Orange clear coat. Body panels are nice and straight, totally rust free, and fenders are nice and curvaceous with a connecting running board. A woven chromed grille flanked by a single headlight on each side connected by a curved chrome arm and a simple bumper announces you have arrived. Trumpeting more highlights, the small pinstripe flourishes in gold throughout add additional bling. Tinted windows are all around and rear is just perfect quintessential Oldsmobile form 1931. 15-inch Torque thrust wheels are all around and are expertly polished.
Interior
Not unlike the Great Charlie Brown Pumpkin, the interior bowls you over with door panels that have tufted stitched orange vinyl panels with black buttons at each intersection. Plain black panels are above and below. Queue the seats captain! Where we see orange inserts bordered all around by black bolsters on dual front buckets and a back dual seated bench. A high gloss black metal dash fronts all this excitement, where we see embedded Stewart Warner Wings gauges, a GM tilt column, a Jensen AM/FM/CD sound system, and above a snazzy and convenient overhead console, which floats in a sea of black vinyl shiny headliner. Black carpet is on the floors and is in excellent condition. Last but not least is the long posted machined knobbed Lokar shifter sitting proudly in the center.
Drivetrain
A painfully vibrant 350ci Chevy orange block with chromed Chevy badged valve covers, and ceramic coated headers snaking out from below, and I'll need to pause to put on my sunglasses to finish this section off... Ok I'm back, and to continue we have an Edelbrock intake and a Summit 650 duel feed carburetor. Also mounted and looking sharp are a Petronix coil, rotor and ignition module, a crossfire cap, Taylor wires, and an aluminum radiator with dual fans. On back is a 350 Turbo automatic transmission with a Ford 8-inch rear.
Undercarriage
With plenty of liberties taken to the nth degree on the build, we note a Heidt's Mustang II style front suspension, and a leaf sprung rear. Disc brakes for the front and drum brakes for the back. Noted also are dual Flowmasters snaking their way rearward, past a 15 gallon fuel tank.
Drive-Ability
Prior to entering this car I gave it the once over with my trained eye and folks, there is barely a mark on it anywhere. I climbed in and breathed in all the black and orange, then finally lit the candles and we are off. A great acceleration overwhelmed me and was music to my ears on the exhaust. Power steering made this car a breeze to drive, and a great cruiser. To quote the sticker on the dash is apropos "Get in...sit down...shut up...and hold on!"
A wonderful example of Halloween themed eye candy, this rodder is very well done with may high end accoutrements gorgeous color, and lots of engine chrome on full display without the cowls. A great runner, and a definite turn key Hot Rod ready to enjoy immediately. Some come down to Classic Auto and unwrap this beauty for yourself.
