Description for Other Makes Morris Minor 1969
1969 Morris Minor Window Van This is a very rare 1969 Morris Minor 6cwt (600 lb load capacity) right hand drive utility van with windows in the cargo box. MM vans are hard to find. but very few of them exist with the cargo box windows. From what I am able to determine. this van started life in Rotorua. New Zealand as a government parks vehicle. It was rescued and restored and saw service as the mascot for a custom bicycle shop. A specialty used car dealer in South Carolina imported it to the US and I purchased it from them in 2009. Since then I have been using it as a daily driver to haul my tools around so I can do facilities maintenance on my business locations. It is also a superb rolling billboard for your business. Everybody in town knows this truck. However. new business ventures require that I get rid of my little truck and let somebody else enjoy it. Over the years I have made modifications to improve performance. safety and reliability. None of these changes are irreversible if your goal is originality. The original carburetor. manifolds. muffler. and steel wheels with be provided. Some of the changes include: Replace generator with alternator Install Pertronix Flamethrower distributor (electronic ignition) Front disk brakes from MG Midget Pneumatic brake booster Dual SU HS2 carburetors with K&N filters Cast aluminum valve cover Long center branch headers with "big-bore" exhaust MiniLite-style aluminum wheels with Dunlop tires Aux power outlets on dash 750 watt inverter to charge power tools Added switched and unswitched fuse panels Oil pressure. voltage. and coolant temp gauges Rebuilt 1275-spec transmission AM-FM CD player with aux input and good speakers Coastal Virginia environmental conditions are tough on cars and over the years. I have worked to eliminate flaws in the paint and the resulting rust. but there are some spots where the paint and filler have cracked with surface rust developing underneath. mainly on the cargo box. Except for one small rust-through on the cargo box. the metal is very solid. The front fenders have developed bubble rust that will require attention soon. I recently replaced the bottom portion of the driver door with a patch panel I had shipped from GB. I have the panel for the passenger door as well but have not installed it. Unlike Morris Minor sedans. the truck has a full frame rather than unibody construction and the vehicle is very solid. All in all the vehicle is in great condition for its age and would be a great subject for full restoration or you can patch the paint and keep rolling. Parts are readily available from a number of sources in the US and UK. Since installing the rebuilt transmission. the speedometer is optimistic. i. e. at true 35MPH. it reads 42MPH. You get used to it. The odometer works. but I have no way to tell if it reflects the actual mileage for the truck. The truck has modern three-point seatbelts. The vinyl lettering is easily removed. The truck drives like a little go-kart and the right hand driving position and left-hand gearshift are very easy to get used to. but you also have to get used to other drivers staring at you. smiling and waving.
