Manta Mirage ****Barn Find in CA since 1986**

I purchased this Manta from an estate sale that nobody has seen the car run since 1986.The CA Title is a 1978 Manta issued 9/22/22. It was stored in a garage, NO rat droppings at all. NOTE: this Manta has not been on the road since 1986. When I got the car home I had a Covair mechanic look over the car. He said the car was built from Manta located in Ca. The car is a full frame car that was built to be a 1900 pound race car, see Mantacars.com. The motor is a small block chevy 350?? With a Covair 4sp transmission. The front end is VW with air shocks so you press a button and the front pumps up from a compressor in the back. The same concept as the Lambo?s. The fuel cell was removed so we added one along with an electric fuel pump. The carb had to be cleaned out, radiator hoses had to be replaced. The brakes and clutch were flushed and blead. Tires are 265 50 15 front and 285 50 15 rears all have to be replaced but hold air. With a good battery, the car started up. Changed oil and added water. Started car again, let it warm up, WOW No leaks, car runs and SOUNDS GOOD !! The Headers w/mufflers not too loud. I couldn?t believe the AIR SHOCKS work, power antenna, has OLD stero; turn, brake, marker dash lights work, head light work but need a relay. The interior is all hear but is OLD and needs to be redone; dash, seats, side panels and doors. The windshield and side windows are made from Plexiglas. The windshield has scratches but can be used, 1 of the door windows should be replaced. None of the windows are installed except the back glass, looks good. I was told you can make the door windows and new windshields are avil. I have videos of the car going forward and reverse, only short distance due to cracks in the tires. I can email the videos. The kids in the neighborhood think it?s the BATMOBILE The hinge's for the doors are there, not installed. The car came with a box of parts see picture. The paint changes colors But is old and needs paint. Parts replaced= Fuel cell and pump, oil, hoses, brake fluid. New= Mirrors, seat belts and 52" rear spoiler not installed. This could be a Great family Project. The internet says there only 144 that have been register. This is a True ** Barn Find** When you pull up anywhere people ask many questions, even when we had it on the trailer.
