Description for Volkswagen Rabbit 1979
This this is a German import. It was in dry storage for 10 years until 2 years ago when I got it. I have driven it since. It has the A/C parts but I have converted it in a non- A/C as it is currently ( I removed the crazy bracket system so that working on it and getting a new alternator was feasible). It is a 4 speed. I still have the A/C compressor and the alternator that was replaced with it's pulley that has the original A/C bracket compatibility. I has really good seats, a custom alternator bracket that doesn't mount the A/C compressor, other than that it is original. The wheels are original with the hub caps (shown on back but I have all 4). The vent windows are missing the locking mechanism so I have tape to hold them shut. The carpet is not good. The body is mostly in tact ( except the ding on the passenger rear form someone how back into me in a parking lot. The door still opens and shuts fine. The door handles to need to be adjusted to open easier. It was my primary transportation until a month ago when I got a new car. I could still do so if I chose. The wind shield is cracked. There are 2 rust spots that have made holes as shown in the pics. There is other rust on the body, but not so bad ( I think) that It couldn't be sanded and painted without crazy measures. It's dependable and overall really good, I just don't have the means to restore it like I had hoped. The valve cover gasket should be replaced soon as my last attempt left it a bit leaky ( first attempt ). I just did the rear brake pads. The outside mirrors don't hold their position very well. Many parts have been replaced including the alternator, hoses, the exhaust, the thermoswitch, thermostat, coolant, and front rotors. Upon purchase, I plan to replace the oil, oil filter and gear oil unless buyer plans on doing a over haul as can be discussed.
