This 1974 Plymouth Trailduster is a rare and early first-year survivor. What helps it to stand out is its doors because only Traildusters produced before June 10th, 1974, featured what became known as half-doors. Only a few examples exist on the Registry. This rare option means that the top of the door frames are a permanent feature on the removeable top so when the top is removed you truly have a full convertible rig. For those who don’t know, the Plymouth Trailduster is the sibling of the Dodge Ramcharger which were produced in much greater numbers. That being said, the half-door early 1974 model is almost next to impossible to find these days. My son and I were lucky enough to find this nice 4wd example and have enjoyed driving and cleaning this beautiful rig. The options on this Trailduster also make this example a nice find, metallicAvocado green factory color and featuring the 360 original engine, 4x4, locking front hubs, factory A/C system, optional rear seat and rollbar and also includes the factory center ice chest. Other period correct noted features include a wood grain finish 8 track tape player, rear side mounted forward facing box speakers, factory radio, new carpeting with sound deadening barrier and an almost perfect dash and pad with gauge cluster details. Original front bumper guards and I also have an original factory tow hitch I have not reinstalled after removal while replacing the fuel tank.

The three-speed transmission coupled with dual range transfer case and manual front locking hubs operates as it should. The exhaust sounds healthy. The tires are in excellent condition. Power steering and brakes function excellent. 727 automatic transmission, and NP203 Transfer Case. Each cylinder was compression tested and over 135 PSI.

New gas tank installed with lines, brakes inspected and parts replaced like drums, shoes, braided steel lines for best function. Other replaced parts include rebuilt starter, alternator, plugs, wires, hoses, distributor, rebuilt original carburetor.

This Trailduster is just a nice, clean original unmodified survivor and sports some pretty cool original features maintaining its original color drivetrain and details. The truck still retains the original factory build decal under the hood, factory service and information decals in the engine bay. The odometer reads 12,730 miles but it has rolled over once so is 112,730 original miles.

The grill, and all brightwork is in great condition. All the glass is great. The rear top window stays up on its own. Rear tailgate operation is easy and simple. We have driven it down by our lake a couple times and the thumbs ups and smiles abound.

The truck spent its life in the dry climate of middle California so the body and undercarriage were sound when we found it. Just look at the inner fender wells, undercarriage, door jams etc. they are excellent. Previous owner was a mopar fanatic and proudly showed us some excellent rarities. We meticulously cleaned the interior, buffed and waxed, and buffed again ???? and added a fresh coat of lower white body paint and reinstalled the seating after laying in the new carpeting with sound deadening material. The rest of the paint shines up nice with typical touch ups over the years of course so its not perfect but presents very well. The solid front floors had previous minimal repair which was done correctly. Previous owner drove it back and forth to town from his estate and other than that it has been housed inside dry storage garage. It didn’t take more than fresh gas and a good battery for us to fire her up for our maiden adventure. In our climate A/C is not required so we didn’t put in new freon however all the proper factory components are there and in good condition so wont take much to make the original factory A/C operational.

Production numbers of the Plymouth Trailduster are based on its production years of 1974-1981 and varying reports roughly a total of 30,000 units limiting production of just a few thousand per year within that range. Add to that this 1974 half-door version was only produced for a few months in early 1974.

Includes previous servicing receipts, registration receipts, original owners manual in near perfect condition, original sales brochure in same excellent condition, original product update sheets from Plymouth and an original issue of the magazine: Pickup, Van & 4wd dated March 1974 with cover of this truck, and interior article covering this truck. We added the metallic red stripe inside the original body trim molding but that can easily be removed if you prefer the factory black look. We have not as of yet reconnected the stereo after removal for laying in the new carpet. All weatherstripping is good and it could use a new set of front window felt strips. Windshield wipers function sporadically so probably a loose wire.
